Overview of the 2009 SHRM Colorado State Conference Programs
The theme of the 2009 SHRM Colorado State Conference was Elevate to Excellence. Throughout the conference we explored the range of opportunities within the field of HR with respect to Human Resource Essentials, Legal Updates, Strategic Business Partner, Training and Organizational Development, Overall Employee Wellness, and Leadership. The purpose of the exploration is to allow HR professionals to succeed through the understanding and application of comprehensive business theory and practice.
Thirty-six concurrent sessions with six separate tracks were provided to educate and motivate all levels of HR aptitude from the beginning practitioner to the senior level professional. A dedicated and focused committee provided a top-notch educational forum. Conference tracks drilled down to specifics with session topics related to one of the following six (color-coded) tracks:
Human Resource Essentials
This track was an excellent overview and refresher for all levels of Human Resource professionals. The focus was on getting back to the basics of Human Resources.
Leadership
This track offered guidance and direction related to climbing the ladder of Human Resources. Tracks discussed leadership competencies, how to move into leadership and how to keep skills up to date.
Training and Organizational Development
This track focused on strategic practices, organizational development and training. Sessions were designed to enhance communication, critical thinking, and strategic planning for mid-level and senior HR professionals.
Overall Employee Wellness
This track uncovered the Importance of employees' physical and mental health, as well as what the company can do to promote a healthy work environment.
HR: Your Strategic Business Partner
This track helped us better understand the significance of HR’s role in having an impact on the bottom line of the organization. The track focused on how HR can support the various stakeholders of the organization.
Legal Update
This track was designed to help HR professionals stay abreast of current Colorado and Federal laws and policies affecting both the field of HR and general business.
