Mesa State College SHRM Club Captures 4th Place in 2010 SW Regional HR Games!

The Mesa State College Society for Human Resource Management Club (SHRM) sent two teams of three participants each to the Regional HR Games in Albuquerque on March 26th and 28th.  The event was the SouthWest Regional HR Games and it is operated and sanctioned by the national organization of SHRM.  Students who participate in the HR Games engage in a Jeopardy-style knowledge bowl that utilizes HR information for the body of knowledge.  Mesa State's Maroon team consisted of Lukas Burton, Wanda Williams and Chris Brown.  The Mesa State White team was made up of Ashley Krebs, Patti Anderson and Kelly Mugford.

This event drew schools from around the southwest region of the U.S.  Participating schools included the University of North Texas, University of Texas San Antonio, Kansas State University, Oklahoma State University, University of New Mexico, Mesa State College, Utah State University, Weber State University and Arizona State University.  These 9 schools fielded a total of 15 teams of competitors.

2010 proved to be the year that Mesa State would finally break into the semi-final round!  The Maroon team of Lukas Burton, Wanda Williams and Chris Brown placed 4th after the preliminary 5 round competition.  That put them in a match with the #1 team from Utah State.  After a spirited battle, in which Mesa State led the round early on, Utah State's team was unbeatable.  After the semi-finals, both Utah State teams were ranked 1st and 2nd and played each other in the final round.  Utah State always sends students to the SW Regional competition who are extremely well-prepared and their current and past records are indicative of their determination as well as their HR acumen.

Congratulations to Mesa State for ranking 4th in the 2010 SW Regional HR Games and reaching the semi-finals!

The Mesa State SHRM Club would like to extend its thanks for the generous support offered by the Western Colorado Human Resource Association, the Colorado Society for Human Resource Management, the Mesa State Fee Allocation Committee and the many folks who recently purchased candles from the SHRM Club fund fundraiser.  This trip was made possible as a result of the generosity of these organizations and individuals.

Thank you, and GO MESA STATE!
